Virtual number or browser calling: what each does
To call a phone abroad, you need no number of your own: call from your browser. To receive calls and texts, rent a US or Canada number.

How it works
- 01Decide which way the calls go: calls you place, calls people make to you, or both.
- 02Only placing calls? Sign up, type the number with its country code and check the price per minute shown before you call. You need no number of your own.
- 03Need people to reach you? Rent a US or Canada number from Numbers in your dashboard. No documents are needed.
- 04Give that number to the people who should call or text you. Calls ring in your browser, and texts and voicemail show under Messages.
- 05Doing both? Choose the rented number as your caller ID, so the people you call see it and can call you back.
- 06Keep enough balance for the next charge. If your balance can't cover it, the number is paused until you top up.
Practical tips
What browser calling does
It places calls to mobiles and landlines in 220 countries and territories, from a phone, tablet or computer with a browser and a microphone. The person you call needs no app: their phone rings like any other call. You pay per started minute from a prepaid balance, and the rates page lists the price for every country.
Why a call you place can't be returned
Unless you choose another caller ID, the person you call sees a QuikRing number. That number is shared, so a call back to it never reaches you. If people need to call you back, give them a number that rings for you: one you rent, or your own mobile.
What a rented number does
Calls to it ring in your browser, or are forwarded to your phone. A caller you miss can leave a voicemail, which is transcribed automatically. Text messages sent to it show under Messages and arrive by email unless you turn that off. The Numbers page shows each country's fee, charged every 30 days.
What a rented number does not do
QuikRing does not send text messages, and the texts it receives are text only, with no pictures. Some services do not send verification codes to virtual numbers, so we can't promise that a code from a particular service will reach you.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a virtual number to call abroad?
No. QuikRing places calls from your browser without a number of your own, at the price shown before you call. You need a rented number only if people should be able to call or text you.
Can people call me back on the number they see?
Only if it is a number that rings for you, such as a US or Canada number you rent and choose as your caller ID. Calls back to it ring in your browser.
Can I send text messages from a rented number?
No. A rented number receives text messages, but QuikRing does not send them.
Will verification codes arrive on a rented number?
Some services do not send verification codes to virtual numbers, so a code from a particular service may not arrive.
Can I have a US number while I live abroad?
Yes. A rented number receives calls in your browser wherever you are online, and renting one needs no documents.
Does incoming calling cost extra?
Answered incoming calls are billed per minute from your balance, at the rate shown for each country on the Numbers page. Missed calls, voicemail and received texts cost nothing extra.
Can my team share one number?
Yes, with Team Calling. A shared number can ring the whole team at once or round-robin between members.
