The Skype alternative for calling real phones abroad
Microsoft retired Skype on May 5, 2025 and moved its calling features into Microsoft Teams. If you used Skype mainly to call real phone numbers abroad, not other Skype users, QuikRing does that same job from your browser, at a transparent per-minute rate.

What happened to Skype
Microsoft shut down Skype on May 5, 2025, and pointed its users to Microsoft Teams for chat and video calling. Skype accounts and contacts could move to Teams, but Teams is built for chat and video meetings. Microsoft's pages describe a Skype Dial Pad in Teams Free only for people who already hold Skype Credit.
Skype Credit balances and Skype Number subscriptions, the parts of Skype built for calling real mobiles and landlines, have no direct equivalent inside Teams. Anyone who used Skype mainly to call people who weren't on Skype needs a separate way to keep doing that.
What Skype Credit and Skype Number users need now
- A way to call any real mobile or landline abroad, not just other app users.
- A caller ID the person you're calling recognizes, instead of an unknown number.
- Pay-as-you-go pricing, without committing to a subscription.
- No new hardware or phone number to set up, just a browser.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need to install anything to switch from Skype?
No. QuikRing runs in your browser, the same way Skype's web version did. There's nothing to download, and no Skype account or contact list to migrate.
Can I still call landlines, not just mobiles?
Yes. QuikRing routes calls to both mobile and landline numbers, at the per-minute rate shown for each country before you call.
What happens to my old Skype Credit balance?
Skype Credit can't be moved to another service. Microsoft's pages describe a Skype Dial Pad in Teams Free for people who already hold it. QuikRing has its own pay-as-you-go balance, and a new account's first minute is free to select destinations with a verified email.
Will the person I call see a number they recognize?
After your first top-up you can verify your own mobile number as your caller ID for free from your QuikRing dashboard, so on routes that support it contacts see the number they already know instead of an unfamiliar one.
