What happened to Skype
Microsoft shut down Skype on May 5, 2025, and pointed its users to Microsoft Teams for chat and video calling. Skype accounts and contacts could move to Teams, but Teams is built for chat and video meetings, not for Skype Credit or dialing an ordinary phone number.
Skype Credit balances and Skype Number subscriptions, the parts of Skype built for calling real mobiles and landlines, have no direct equivalent inside Teams. Anyone who used Skype mainly to call people who weren't on Skype needs a separate way to keep doing that.

Do I need to install anything to switch from Skype?
