How to call a phone number from your computer or laptop

How it works
- 01Open QuikRing in an up-to-date browser. The table below shows what works on your device.
- 02Sign in or create a free account. Your first call to select destinations is free for up to one minute.
- 03Allow the microphone when the browser asks. It asks once per browser; if you click Block by mistake, the table shows where to switch it back on.
- 04Put on a headset if you have one, or turn the speaker volume down a little so the microphone doesn't pick it up.
- 05Type the number with its country code. The price per minute for that landline or mobile appears before you call.
- 06Click Call and talk. Your computer's audio goes to the other person's ordinary phone.
- 07Hang up when you're done. You pay for started minutes only.

Use a headset for long calls
A headset keeps your voice clear and stops echo. The built-in microphone and speakers of a laptop still work for a short call.
A steady connection beats a fast one
A call needs only a small but steady amount of bandwidth, so a stable Wi-Fi signal matters more than speed. Pause big downloads while you talk.

The browser doesn't ask for the microphone, or says it is blocked
Click the site settings icon next to the address bar, set Microphone to Allow and reload the page. If the browser allows it but nothing is heard, check that the browser is switched on in your system's microphone privacy settings.
You can't hear the other person
Check the volume and that sound goes to the speaker or headset you expect. Close other tabs and apps that use audio, such as a video meeting, then try again.
The other person hears an echo
Use a headset, or turn the speaker volume down. Echo happens when a laptop's microphone picks up its own speakers.
The call is choppy or drops
Move closer to the router or use a cable, and pause large downloads, uploads and video streams during the call. If the signal is weak on mobile data, switch to Wi-Fi, or the other way round. If a call drops because of a network problem, the dialer tells you.
The call doesn't connect
Check the country code and the number, then try again. Busy, unanswered and failed calls are never charged.

Do I need a headset or special microphone?
No. Your laptop's built-in microphone and speakers are enough. Simply grant microphone permission in your browser and click call.
Which browsers work for calling a phone from a computer?
A recent version of Chrome, Safari, Edge or Firefox on Windows, macOS, Linux or a Chromebook. On an iPhone or iPad, use Safari. Nothing needs to be installed.
Can I call a landline from my computer?
Yes. QuikRing dials landlines and mobiles in the countries it covers, and shows the price per minute for each before you call.
Does the person I call need to install anything?
No. Their phone rings like any other call. They don't need an app, an internet connection or a smartphone.
Does it work on a Chromebook?
Yes. A Chromebook has no phone app, but QuikRing runs in Chrome as an ordinary website, with no extension or Chrome Web Store install.
Can I call emergency numbers from my computer?
No. QuikRing can't connect calls to emergency services such as 911, 112 or 999. Use a mobile or landline phone for those.
