How to call a landline number abroad from your browser
You can call a landline in another country from your browser with no app on either side: QuikRing dials the real number at the price shown before you call. Use it for a relative's home phone, a shop, a clinic or an office that has no WhatsApp.

How it works
- 01Get the full number, including the area code, from the person or the official website of the place.
- 02Write it with a + and the country code first, then the area code and the number. Drop the 0 that some countries put in front of the area code, because the country code replaces it.
- 03Check the time there. The dialer tells you when it is late or early at the destination.
- 04Open QuikRing in your browser and type the number. The price per minute for a landline in that country appears before you call.
- 05Tap Call. The landline rings like any other call, and the person needs no app, no internet connection and no smartphone.
- 06If the number is correct and nobody answers, try another hour. Nothing is charged for a call that is not answered.
Practical tips
Write the number in full
Start with + and the country code, then the area code and the local number. The dialer tells you when the digits do not look right, and a US or Canadian number has 10 digits after +1 and never starts with 0 or 1.
Older relatives answer numbers they know
A call from an unknown number often goes unanswered. After your first top-up, verify your own mobile number as caller ID, so on routes that support it the person sees a number they recognize. Or message them first, so they expect your call.
Business landlines and answering machines
A shop or an office may answer with a recorded greeting. You are billed from the moment it picks up, so hang up when you reach a greeting you do not need, or keep the call short.
How to recognize a landline number
A landline number is tied to a place, so it begins with an area code that points to a city or a region, while a mobile number begins with a mobile prefix that is not tied to a place. Numbering plans differ by country, so you can't always tell by looking. Type the number in the dialer: it tells mobile from landline and shows the matching price, and where the plan can't tell, it shows the price as "up to".
The trunk zero and the country code
Many countries write a 0 in front of the area code for calls inside the country. From abroad you drop that 0 and use + and the country code instead, and the dialer reminds you when a number starts with 0. A few countries keep the 0, so copy the number from a source that writes it with a + in front.
Why landlines are often cheaper
In many countries a landline costs less per minute than a mobile, because each destination has its own price for each. In some countries the gap is large, and the rates page lists both prices for every country. Where the landline price is lower, a shop's front line costs less than its owner's mobile for the same long call.
Before you dial
- The full number with its country code, copied from the official website of the place you are calling, your card or the booking email.
- Enough credit for a long call. Once the line is answered, a recorded menu and hold music are billed like talk time.
- A quiet place and, if you have one, a headset, so you can hear a recorded menu clearly.
- What the other side will ask for, such as a booking reference, an account number or a name, and a pen or a notes app.
Menus, holds and the keypad
Large companies and offices usually answer with a recorded menu. The keypad on the screen is grayed out while the line rings. Once the call is answered, tap the keys on the screen to choose an option. Digits typed on a computer keyboard are not sent to the call.
To reach an extension, dial the main number, wait until it is answered, then enter the extension on the on-screen keypad.
The dialer shows roughly how much time your balance covers and warns you in the last minute. If you top up during the call, the extra time is added.

All country rates →If it does not connect
- Check the country code and the digits, and drop a leading 0 after the code. The dialer tells you when a number does not look right.
- Busy, unanswered and failed calls are never charged, so you can try again straight away.
- If it rings out, check the time there. Desks and offices are closed at night.
- Switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data, close other apps that use the microphone, or run the connection test under Free tools.
- Toll-free numbers of other countries (0800, 1800 and similar) usually cannot be reached from abroad. Look for their regular number with an area code. US and Canadian toll-free numbers can be called.
- Still stuck? Write to support with the number and roughly when you called.
Frequently asked questions
Can QuikRing call landline numbers, not just mobiles?
Yes — QuikRing connects to any real telephone number, landline or mobile, in any country it covers.
Is a landline cheaper to call than a mobile?
It depends on the country. Each destination has a price per minute for landlines and one for mobiles, and in some countries the two differ a lot. The dialer shows the price of the exact number before you call, and the rates page lists both.
Does the person I call need internet or a smartphone?
No. Their landline rings like any other call. They need no app, no data connection and no account.
Can the landline call me back?
QuikRing receives calls only on a number you rent. Rent one from your dashboard if people need to reach you, or give them your own mobile.
What if the landline goes to an answering machine?
You are billed once the machine picks up, because the call is answered. Hang up when you hear it if you don't want to leave a message.
Why does the dialer say my number looks wrong?
Check the digits and the country code, and remove a leading 0 after the code. The dialer holds the call back until the number has a plausible length for that country.
Can I call a landline from my phone?
Yes. QuikRing runs in your phone's browser, with no app, over Wi-Fi or mobile data. Allow the microphone when the browser asks.
Do landlines and mobiles have the same country code?
Yes. The country code is the same for the whole country. What comes after it, an area code or a mobile prefix, is what sets landlines and mobiles apart.
