How to call your bank's US number from abroad

Use the number your bank lists for customers calling from outside the United States. If it lists none, or you only have the toll-free number printed on your card, place the call over the internet to that number with QuikRing, billed per minute at the rate shown before you dial. Right now it starts at $0.02/min. With a verified email, your first call is free for up to one minute.

Can this number be called from abroad?

Type the number with its country code. We check its range against the rules our dialer uses, so you know before you pay.

The answer appears here as you type.

This knows ranges, not individual numbers. A company can arrange access from abroad for one number, and our list of ranges is not complete.

QuikRing's own calls to toll-free numbers

Between ⁨September 14, 2026⁩ and ⁨October 8, 2026⁩, ⁨156⁩ calls were placed through QuikRing to US and Canada toll-free numbers (⁨800, 833, 844, 855, 866, 877, 888⁩). ⁨129⁩ of them connected (⁨83%⁩), and the median connected call lasted ⁨2 minutes 8 seconds⁩.

Connected means answered by the far end. The rest were busy, unanswered, mistyped or on ranges that do not accept such calls. This is a snapshot of past calls, not a promise about yours.

Which number to call

A bank usually has more than one number. The toll-free number printed on the back of your card is meant for customers in the United States and is often the one that fails from abroad. A bank may also publish a separate number for customers calling from outside the country, on its website, in its app or on statements.

If you can find the number for callers abroad, use it, and dial it with QuikRing: the rate is shown before you dial. If you cannot, the toll-free number is still the right one to dial, but in most cases it connects only when the call enters the phone network in North America, which is how QuikRing places it.

Take the number from the bank, not from a search result

A number in a search result, an advert or a message can belong to someone else, and a call to the wrong number puts your account details in the wrong hands. Take the number from the back of your card, a statement, or the bank's own website or app.

Never read out a one-time code to someone who called you, whatever they say. If you are unsure whether a call was genuine, hang up and dial the number from your card yourself.

Before you call

A few minutes of preparation is the cheapest way to shorten the call.

  1. 01Save the numbers before you travel. If a card is lost, you may be unable to sign in to look them up.
  2. 02Check the time. The United States spans several time zones, and a telephone line may only be staffed at certain hours.
  3. 03Have the details the bank asks for ready, and a pen for the reference number it gives you.
  4. 04Use headphones with a microphone, and Wi-Fi if you can: the call travels over your internet connection.

Using the phone menu

Bank lines usually open with an automated menu. In QuikRing, tap the on-screen keypad to choose options and enter numbers. Typing digits on a computer keyboard does not send them to the call, so use the keys on the screen.

Time in a menu and on hold is billed once the line has answered, so it helps to know the option you want before the menu starts to read them out.

What the call costs

At the current rate, which starts at $0.02/min, a call that lasts 10 minutes costs about $0.20, and a call that lasts 45 minutes about $0.90. Calls are billed per started minute, and busy, unanswered and failed calls are not charged.

The live table further down is the figure to trust.

If the line will not connect

Check the digits against the card first. If the number is right and the call still fails, the line may accept calls only from certain places. Try the number for callers abroad, dialed with QuikRing. If the problem is a lost or stolen card, try the second number rather than waiting.

Frequently asked questions

Which number should I call if my card is lost abroad?

The number your bank lists for lost or stolen cards, from the back of the card, a statement or the bank's own website or app. If it is a toll-free number, place the call from your browser with QuikRing so that in most cases it connects like a domestic call.

Can I call the toll-free number on my card from another country?

Often not from an ordinary foreign phone. Carriers outside the United States and Canada may block the number or bill it as international. A call over the internet with QuikRing enters the phone network in North America.

How do I find the number for callers abroad?

Look on the bank's own website or app, on a statement, or on the card. It is usually listed as a number for calling from outside the country. Do not take it from a search result.

Which time should I call?

Work out the local time where the bank's line is staffed. The United States spans several time zones, so check the hours the bank gives for the line you need.

Am I billed while I am on hold?

Yes. Once the line has answered, the call is billed per started minute while it stays connected, including time on hold. Busy, unanswered and failed calls are not charged.

Does this work for other customer-service lines?

Yes, for any US or Canada toll-free number. There are guides for calling a bank's or an airline's customer service from abroad.
