A US or Canada number for calls and texts

QuikRing mostly places calls, but you can also rent a US or Canada phone number from it. The number rings in your browser, receives text messages and turns voicemail into text. This post says what that gives you, and just as plainly what it does not.

QuikRing does not send text messages. A rented number receives them, and that is all. Texts are text only, with no pictures, and QuikRing does not handle picture messages.

A rented number is also not a guaranteed way to receive a verification code. Some services do not send verification codes to virtual numbers, so we cannot promise that a code from a particular service will reach you. We do not recommend renting a number for that purpose.

Inbound calls and texts work only on a number you rent from QuikRing, never on the shared caller-ID number that calls go out from by default. And QuikRing cannot place emergency calls: 911, 112, 999 and other emergency numbers are blocked, so use a mobile or landline phone for those.

People abroad who need a US or Canada number that others can call back. When someone returns your call, it rings in your browser wherever you are online.

A freelancer or small business that wants a US number ringing in the browser, without a second phone. You can use it as your caller ID and, if you prefer, forward incoming calls to another phone.

Anyone who would rather read a voicemail than listen to it. Voicemail is transcribed automatically, and you can read it or play it under Messages.

The fee is taken from your prepaid balance every 30 days, with no separate subscription or invoice, and the current price is on the numbers page. Text messages are included in it, with no per-message charge, and voicemail is free.

Incoming calls are billed per minute from your balance at the rate shown for each country, and where the caller is calling from does not change it. A missed, declined or busy call is never charged. If your balance cannot cover the next charge, the number is paused until you top up. A number paused for 7 days is released, and it may not be available if you try to rent it again.

You need only an email address to sign up, and you can rent a number later. US and Canada numbers work right away, with no documents or ID checks. You can browse the area codes to find a number in the area you want, and rent it from your dashboard.

Before you give the number out, use the test call button in your dashboard to confirm it rings. You can cancel a number any time, with no contract or minimum term. Texts are kept for 90 days, and you can delete one at any time. They are text only and arrive under Messages in your dashboard and by email, unless you turn the emails off.
