Why foreign phones fail on toll-free numbers
The telecom block
Spanish 900 and 800 free numbers are free only for calls placed inside Spain; from abroad the number either fails to connect or is billed as an ordinary international call to Spain.
What works instead
Most banks, airlines and public offices also publish a regular number with an area code for callers abroad. Look on the back of your card, or on the contact page under “calling from abroad”. Call that number from your browser with QuikRing. You'll see the per-minute rate before you dial, and the rates for Spain are listed below.
A call that doesn't connect isn't charged.
The dialer also warns you before you dial a toll-free number in Spain.
