How to call Mexico from the US
Mexico's 10-digit numbers, why the old 01, 044 and 045 prefixes are gone, and how to call from your browser.
The dialing format
From a US phone, dial 011, then 52 (Mexico's country code), then the 10-digit number. On a mobile phone, +52 followed by the 10 digits works too.
Every Mexican number, mobile or landline, has 10 digits. In Mexico City, Guadalajara and Monterrey the area code has two digits; elsewhere it has three. Either way the total is 10.
Forget the old prefixes
Mexico simplified its dialing plan in 2019. The domestic prefixes 01, 044 and 045 were dropped, and the extra 1 that used to go after +52 when calling a mobile is no longer needed. If an old contact is saved as +52 1 followed by 10 digits, remove the 1.
Time zones
Most of Mexico stopped observing daylight saving time in 2022. Mexico City stays on UTC-6 all year, so it lines up with US Central time in winter and matches US Mountain time in summer. A few areas near the US border still follow US clock changes.
